MONROE — A motorcyclist from Monticello was injured and cited for driving under the influence following a crash that he tried to flee from on foot in Green County near Belleville Sunday night.

The crash happened just after 6 p.m., in the Town of Exeter, according to reports. It was also reported that the rider, Dean R. Krychowiak, 46, of Monticello, had taken off on foot into a nearby cornfield.

Green County Deputies, along with the K-9 unit; and crews from Belleville EMS responded to the W4500 block of County W, where the motorcycle had been traveling westbound. Dean “eventually exited the corn field and was taken into custody for Operating While Under the Influence of Alcohol — 3rd Offense,” according to reports.

Police reports — including a witness statement — concluded that Dean was traveling west on County W when his motorcycle entered the gravel shoulder. The motorcycle then fishtailed out of control, fell onto its side and then slid down an embankment, coming to a rest in the north ditch off the road. Dean was not wearing a helmet and was evaluated by Belleville EMS for injuries characterized as non-life threatening on scene.

The motorcycle sustained disabling damage and was towed.

Dean, who was also cited for driving too fast for conditions, was taken to Green County Jail, pending his initial court appearance or posting of his bond.
