Man, 49, charged with sex assault of teens
New Gavel

MONROE — A Monroe man has pleaded not guilty to numerous sexual assault felonies related to alleged abuse that occurred to teen sisters living in a Monroe apartment complex reportedly managed by the defendant.

The young girls were reportedly the daughters of the woman the man was dating and living with, and following initial accusations of attempted sex assault, cameras were installed in their building to catch him in the act.

“(A social worker) asked about the allegations and (Victim 1) stated they installed cameras because her mother’s boyfriend was touching (Victim 1) and her sister, (Victim 2), inappropriately,” said the criminal complaint. “(Victim 1) advised she had told her dad, (Witness 2), and he didn’t believe them so they decided to get cameras to get evidence.”

Both were under age 16 and the abusive acts are alleged to have occurred between 2020 and 2023 in multiple locations, including on a trip to Colorado; and on one child’s 16th birthday.

As a result of the investigation, Jason McNett, 49, has been charged with repeated sexual assault of a child, two counts of attempted sexual assault of a child under 16, third-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault; and causing mental harm to a child.

At the time, he was the manager of the Swiss Wheel apartments in Monroe.

In addition to touching and attempted touching of the two girls in the apartments in which they lived, the complaint said he “also would sometimes leave the door open when he took showers and leave porn magazines out where they could see them.”

As apartment manager he had keys to all the apartments according to the criminal complaint.

“(Victim 1) believed that Jason would have let himself into (Witness 2’s) apartment on this incident because Jason is the manager of the Swiss Wheel and has keys to every apartment.

Following his arrest, McNett pleaded not guilty to all the charges, and posted $5,000 bond; and a $45,000 signature bond to be released pending his trial and pre-trial hearings, according to court records.

If convicted, McNett faces multiple years in prison, substantial fines, and potentially, registration for life as a sex offender.
