MONROE — A Monroe man has pleaded guilty to lesser charges related to a sexual assault case outside an Albany tavern.

Derek Larosh was sentenced to jail time and a significant fine for a misdemeanor conviction of fourth degree sexual assault, felony bail jumping; and other charges. But he is unlikely to do lengthy prison time.

“The Court orders a withheld sentence for a period of 3 years on count 2 (Felony Bail Jumping) (and) $1,000.00 cash bond to be applied to costs,” said the official court record notes.

On the sexual assault and other charges, he was given a one-year prison sentence but it was “stayed” by the court, records indicate. And he has been sentenced to two years of probation. He must also pay court costs and submit to any needed drug, alcohol or mental health treatment.

Two separate cases were involved in the plea deal.

“The defendant entered a plea of Guilty on counts 1 (bail jumping) and 3 (disorderly conduct),” said the ruling. “The Court finds the defendant Guilty on counts 1 and 3 and dismisses and reads in the remaining counts.”

It’s count 3 that requires him to spend 120 days in the county jail. The court, meanwhile, ordered a withheld sentence for a period of 3 years on count 1.

He must report for jail no later than June 16 for his sentence on the third count. And he must also pay court costs and submit to any needed drug, alcohol or mental health treatment.

Larosh was previously free on a $9,000 signature bond.

The bail jumping charge stemmed from Larosh’s drinking alcohol. He was reportedly required to maintain complete sobriety as a condition of his parole on another charge in Washington County. In that case, he was charged with a felony, possession of methamphetamine, and found guilty. Its unclear at this time how that case impacts his jail status.

In the pending Green County sexual assault case, a reportedly shirtless and shoeless Larosh allegedly grabbed and attempted to kiss a young victim who was waiting for her ride outside an Albany bar on July 7, 2022. After he tried to kiss her, the victim, “advised Derek stood up and began walking towards her, (she) continued to back up and (she) tripped over the curb, falling into the grass.”

Police later located and took Larosh into custody on the sexual assault charge, felony bail jumping and a charge of being a repeat offender, which in Wisconsin increases the potential penalty for multiple convictions.

After a three-day trial in 2017, Larosh, then 29, and living at that time in Rock Springs, was found not guilty on two Class C felony counts of second-degree sexual assault of an unconscious victim; and through the use of force; and four misdemeanor counts of bail jumping.

In that case, prosecutors alleged Larosh invited an intoxicated woman into his home in August 2014 before sexually assaulting her once she fell unconscious. Since that trial, he has been arrested for bail jumping (2015, 2017), drug possession (2016), hit-and-run (2019), OWI 3rd-offense, and possession of methamphetamine (2021).
