MONROE — Derek Hammer, the former boyfriend of a missing Monticello woman, is now in the custody of Stephenson County after a long stay in the Green County Jail.

Hammer was transferred to Freeport on Friday, said Sheriff Jeff Skatrud. A Stephenson County Jail employee confirmed he was in custody and being held without bond there over the weekend.

Hammer posted bond in Green County after it was lowered by a Rock County Judge who has taken over the case against Hammer.

Melissa Trumpy, a 37-year-old mother of three, has been missing for over a year. Hammer is thought to be among the last people to see Trumpy alive despite a court order to refrain from contact with her or her family.

He posted bond on multiple Green County felonies unrelated to her disappearance, and at this time is facing primarily marijuana growing charges in Stephenson County. His next appearance is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on March 15 in Stephenson County Circuit Court.
