Green County

Felonies

●  Justin William Hartwig, 33, Albany, pleaded no contest Dec. 21 to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and battery, with a felony charge of strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of criminal damage to property dismissed as part of a plea agreement. He was sentenced to 18 months on probation with conditions including alcohol and other drug abuse (AODA) treatment. He owes the court $552. The case stems from a domestic altercation July 3 at Hartwig’s residence on County X, Town of Albany. A woman reported the incident two days later. Court records indicate Hartwig came home from the bar that night, they got into an argument and he picked her up and threw her on the floor several times, grabbed her by the throat and tried to strangle her. Two days later her voice was still scratchy and hoarse as a result, and she said it hurt to swallow. In a victim-impact statement, she wrote that Hartwig deserved a harsher, more strict sentence. “Clearly he is showing a repeat pattern of drunken violence and has not learned anything or sought out help for himself from previous outcomes and opportunities,” she wrote, adding that Hartwig needs to “attend AODA, anger management and to stay sober.”

●  Christopher Charles Murray, 35, Brodhead, pleaded no contest Jan 3 to a Class G felony charge of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail, to begin Feb. 1, and fined $518. He owes the court $1,263.50 in total. Court records indicate Murray admitted to using firearms to hunt, shoot and harvest deer and turkeys during the 2016 hunting season, but he also told authorities the DNR had sold him his hunting license and he had legal deer tags.

●  David Gordon Potter, 57, Monroe, pleaded no contest Jan. 15 to a Class H felony charge of operating while intoxicated (fourth offense) and a misdemeanor charge of operating while intoxicated (third offense). Related charges were dismissed as part of a plea deal. He was sentenced to 14 months in jail and ordered to undergo alcohol and other drug abuse (AODA) counseling as recommended. The third-offense OWI conviction stems from an April 21 arrest with a tested blood-alcohol concentration of 0.302 percent, which is more than three and a half times the legal limit for driving. The fourth-offense OWI conviction stems from a midmorning single-vehicle crash May 30 on Hiawatha Road, Town of Jordan. Court records indicate Potter had a blood-alcohol level of 0.251 percent, an open bottle of vodka in the vehicle and “very slow and thick” speech.

●  Robin W. Meyers, 56, Madison, was charged Dec. 12 with a Class H felony count of misappropriation of ID information to obtain money and three counts of felony bail jumping. Court records indicate Meyers used the social security number and name of a resident on Ullom Road, Town of Jordan, to open up a Dish Network TV account for personal financial gain and without the resident’s consent on Jan. 17, 2018, and that he did so while working as a contractor installing communications equipment. His initial appearance is Jan. 28.

●  Alan Charles Soper, 56, Fitchburg, was charged Dec. 17 with 17 counts of felony bail jumping. Court records indicate Soper called and texted a woman “at all hours” almost daily between Nov. 25 and Dec. 13, in violation of a court-ordered bond condition that he not contact her and after she told him repeatedly that she wants no contact with him. The case was bound over for trial Dec. 27. Soper has a pre-trial conference Feb. 26.

●  Jordan A. Pryce, 20, Monroe, was charged Dec. 26 with a Class G felony count of possessing THC with intent to distribute, a Class I felony count of maintaining a drug-trafficking place and a misdemeanor count of possessing drug paraphernalia. The case is the result of an investigation by the Stateline Area Narcotics Team (SLANT), in coordination with the U.S. Postal Service. Court records indicate Pryce received a package containing two pounds of marijuana at his home in the 1500 block of 13th Avenue via U.S. mail, and a search of the residence on Dec. 21 turned up marijuana, a metal grinder, glass smoking devices, two scales, sandwich baggies and about $1,000 in cash. He reportedly told police he ordered the marijuana over the phone from a friend in Washington and usually ordered one package per month. He signed a $10,000 signature bond. The case was bound over for trial Jan. 17. Pryce has a pre-trial conference Feb. 26.

●  Jeffrey Wayne Walters, 60, Orfordville, was charged Dec. 27 with one count of felony bail jumping. Court records indicate he failed to appear in court for an Oct. 18 deferred prosecution hearing in a case for failure to pay child support, thereby violating the conditions of his bond in that case.

●  Noah Samuel Dedrick, 39, Brodhead, was charged Dec. 28 with two Class H felony counts of attempted battery to a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property and resisting or obstructing an officer. The case stems from a disturbance Nov. 22 outside a residence in the 700 block of East 2nd Avenue in Brodhead. Court records indicate Dedrick banged on the front door, broke windows, yelled and was “mooing like a cow” when Brodhead Police Officer Nicholas Bartels arrived. Bartels reported that Dedrick “charged at me with his hands still in his pockets” and later kicked Bartels in the chest with both feet while wearing heavy steel-toed work boots, which Bartels noted “did not cause pain because he made contact with the hard plates in my vest.” Bartels reported that in the course of the encounter, he used a Taser on Dedrick and “gave him an open-handed strike to the chest” in response to Dedrick charging at him. Dedrick posted a $650 cash bond and has an adjourned initial appearance Feb. 11.
