Green County

Misdemeanors

●  Corey Richard Foster, 39, Orfordville, was sentenced to 18 months on probation after pleading no contest July 2 to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property. Related charges including battery were dismissed. Foster is prohibited from possessing or consuming intoxicants as a condition of probation. The case stems from an incident Nov. 10 at his then-home in Brodhead. A woman called police to the residence to report that Foster’s violence had escalated in recent days, he had been drinking all day and she wanted him gone. Police reports indicate he punched a hole in the wall big enough to “put a football in,” yelled and swore at her within earshot of children and shoved her down repeatedly as she tried to get away from him.

Felonies

●  Demetrius Marshaun Jones, 34, Monroe, was sentenced to three years on probation after pleading guilty Aug. 1 to a Class I felony count of substantial battery and a Class H felony count of strangulation and suffocation. Conditions of his probation include no drinking and successful completion of alcohol and other drug abuse (AODA) counseling. Related charges including felony bail jumping and making contact after a domestic abuse arrest were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. The case stems from a domestic abuse incident April 4 at his home in the 1800 block of 7th Street, reported later that day to police by a woman being treated at the Monroe Clinic ER. She had a concussion, with symptoms of dizziness and vomiting, as well as abrasions on her back and “numerous red marks” on her face, chin and neck, police found. She told police Jones came home drunk around 4 a.m. as she was getting ready to go to work. He got angry when she asked him to put some clothes in the dryer for her and he started physically and verbally abusing her in front of and within earshot of their children: strangled her so long she nearly passed out, punched her twice, spit on her and “kicked her right in the right collarbone area,” causing her to fall backward into a dresser and injure her back, according to police reports. She described a history of his abusive and degrading behavior toward her when he’s been drinking. She told police when he is not drinking, he is a good person. After his arrest, he reprimanded her for reporting the incident, telling her in a recorded jail phone call that they “don’t do the police thing.”

●  Jerry V. Coplien, 28, Monroe, was sentenced to one year on probation after pleading no contest Aug. 1 to a misdemeanor charge of possessing an illegally obtained prescription, downgraded from a felony charge of delivering non-narcotics. Court records indicate he sold three Suboxone film strips for $35 to a confidential source in the 700 block of 10th Avenue in Monroe on Aug. 22, 2017.

●  Kenneth L. Payne Jr., 35, Rockford, pleaded no contest Aug. 2 to a misdemeanor charge of hit-and-run, downgraded from a felony. He owes the court $500. The case stems from an incident Oct. 26 at the Grede Foundry, N2480 County M, Town of Clarno. Court records indicate Payne came to work smelling of alcohol and “walking unsteadily,” and when confronted with a drug-and-alcohol screening as required by workplace policy, he “floored it” out of the parking lot in his vehicle, hitting a coworker in the knee in the process. The coworker reported having a sore knee but did not seek medical treatment.

●  Robin W. Meyers, 56, Madison, was sentenced to three years on probation after pleading guilty Aug. 2 to a Class H felony charge of misappropriating ID information to obtain money, with three counts of felony bail jumping dismissed but “read in.” Conditions of his probation include 5 days in jail, 100 hours of community service and payment of $948 in court fees and restitution. Court records indicate Meyers used the social security number and name of a resident on Ullom Road, Town of Jordan, to open a Dish Network TV account for personal financial gain and without the resident’s consent on Jan. 17, 2018, and that he did so while working as a contractor installing communications equipment.

●  Vernon Maurice Benson Jr., 26, Beloit, was sentenced to 30 months on probation after pleading no contest Aug. 14 to a Class I felony charge of fleeing an officer in a vehicle and a misdemeanor charge of possessing THC. He owes the court $673.50. The case stems from a traffic crash March 17 in rural Brodhead. According to police reports, deputies tried to stop Benson for speeding on Wis. 11, but he led them on a two-mile chase, turning northbound onto Bagley Road and then down a private driveway. He lost control, struck an embankment and continued through a field, where the vehicle got stuck in mud. He sustained non-life threatening injuries from the crash. Benson was convicted of a similar crime earlier this summer in Walworth County, assessed over $5,000 in fines and other costs and was sentenced to three years on probation, 25 days in jail and 120 hours of community service.

●  Ana Julieta Torres, 32, Freeport, was charged Aug. 7 with two counts of felony bail jumping and misdemeanor counts of battery, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct. Court records indicate Torres drove her Jeep Cherokee into her ex’s car in a parking lot on West 8th Street in Monroe on July 14, while he was holding the car door, causing his hand to get slammed. The impact also left a dent on his car. After he ran inside a nearby restaurant, she opened his driver’s door and broke the directional shifter before taking some of her belongings, a pair of shoes and a blender, out of the vehicle’s rear hatch. She denied striking his car and claimed the directional shifter was already broken. Police noted that security video footage of the incident shows his car rocking from the impact of the Jeep Cherokee.

●  Jeremy J. Reynolds, 44, Dane County Jail, was charged Aug. 12 with two Class I felony counts of failure to pay child support. Court records indicate he failed to pay support for one child by one woman and three children by another woman. His total arrearage owed as of June 2019 was $28,770.37.
