18-year-old gets 2 years probation for battery
New Gavel

DARLINGTON — An 18-year-old Platteville man was placed on two years probation on six Lafayette County charges.

Marcus Lee Bateman pleaded no contest Monday to misdemeanor battery — domestic abuse, disorderly conduct — domestic abuse, three counts of criminal damage to property and felony bail jumping.

Circuit Judge Duane Jorgenson ruled that Bateman’s record can be expunged if he successfully completes probation.

Bateman was placed on four years probation, including six months in jail, after he pleaded no contest in Grant County Circuit Court April 4 to four counts of party to criminal damage to property, two counts of party to entry into a locked vehicle, two counts of resisting or obstructing an officer, one count of battery or threat to a judge, prosecutor or law enforcement official, and disorderly conduct.

A second battery or threat charge and a felony bail jumping charge, the latter for his failure to appear in court for a status conference Feb. 28, were dismissed.

Probation conditions imposed by Circuit Judge Craig Day include bans on controlled substances unless prescribed including cough syrup, taking prescribed medications daily, continuing in mental health therapy, random drug and alcohol testing, and a minimum of 35 hours per week of school and employment.

Bateman was placed on two years probation last July after he pleaded no contest to Lafayette County charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. A charge of possession of THC was dismissed, according to court records.
