MONROE - A Monroe woman was cited after a police officer shot at her at-large pitbull to protect himself and others late Friday, Oct. 19.
Amanda S. Harlson, 28, was cited for allowing the dog to run at large, having a vicious animal and not licensing the dog or getting it vaccinated for rabies.
According to Monroe police:
Two women called dispatch at about 10 p.m. to report a pitbull loose in the 1600 block of 25th Street. The dog was charging at them every time they tried to walk to their car and had chased them into the house and chased a passerby.
When the officer arrived, he tried to distract and chase off the dog. Instead, it spun around and lunged at him.
In self defense, the officer shot his gun at the dog. The dog was reportedly uninjured but spooked.
It ran off and was later located near Harlson's residence in the 2300 block of 17th Avenue, where officers managed to chase the animal into the house.
