Cooler temps, showers in store this week

MONROE - Some showers early this week may help bring some needed precipitation to the area.

Showers are in the forecast for both today and Tuesday, before skies clear to partly cloudy on Wednesday and give way to sunny weather Thursday and Friday.

Precipitation levels are considerably below average so far this year. Before rain began Sunday evening, the Monroe area had marked .31 inches so far in April, compared to the normal 2.28 inches, according to Weather Central. Year to date, there had been .83 inches of precipitation, off from the normal 7.18 inches.

Expect cooler temperatures than last week. Today's high is expected to hit only 53, and the rest of the week will follow suit with highs in the low 50s.

And the mercury may dip below the freezing point overnight this week: Today's low is forecast to be 36, while lows the rest of the week are expected to hover near the freezing mark.
