MONROE — A convicted sex offender from rural Albany has been arrested while on work-release from his jail sentence for the earlier conviction.
The incident started on June 3, when Green County Sheriff’s investigators began a probe of reported sexual acts involving defendant Isaiah W. Cook, 19.
“While the investigation was underway, Deputies with the Green County Sheriff’s Office observed an inmate engaged in an indecent act within a vehicle parked in the Green County Jail parking lot near 6th St in the City of Monroe,” said a statement, released by Green County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy John M. Schuetz.
The parking lot, authorities added, is near an elementary school and several day cares. As a result, Cook was arrested and charged with Lewd and Lascivious Behavior.
At the time of the incident, Cook was a Green County Jail Inmate with Huber Release privileges, which officials say have since been revoked. He remains in Green County Jail and will not be eligible for release by way of bond on the new arrest — “due to the revocation of his Huber release privileges for the jail sentence he was serving at the time of the incident.”
Moreover, the release said, additional sex crime charges are being referred to the Green County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Cook was convicted of 3rd Degree Sexual Assault in which he pleaded guilty to the charge in Green County Circuit Court in January 2025. In addition to the conviction, other charges were dismissed but read in during sentencing.
Cook earlier received a Deferred Prosecution/Sentence agreement on one count of Repeated Sexual Assault of Same Child (at least three violations of 1st or 2nd degree Sexual Assault). That deferred prosecution/sentence, officials said, was under review and in effect until Jan. 22, 2030.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for 15 years.
