MONROE - Construction work at the corner of 17th Avenue and 10th Street will be finishing up shortly, and moving to the north side in front of Amcore next week.
Customers and business owners on the northeast corner of the Square still were walking in the gravel Friday.
According to Tom Purdy, community developer at Fehr-Graham and Associates, E&N Hughes Company will be "wrapping up" the water main connections in that intersection and preparing for concrete pouring that will start about July 6.
Curbs and gutters on the northeast corner will be poured and formed in one operation - quite a sight to see, as cement trucks dump their load into one end of the machine, and it comes out as one solid length of smooth curb.
Concrete also will be poured in a section along the fronts of the stores in that section to even up the line for the stamped concrete sidewalks.
From July 6 to July 20, people will begin to see a stamped concrete walk area, parallel to a pebbly aggregate section that will set off the tree boxes and street light poles.
Construction on a water main in the alley off 10th Street, south of the Monroe Public Library, may begin during the same time.
Purdy said the engineers are trying to time the work so as not to have two intersections, 10th Street at 16th and 17th Avenue, blocked at the same time, but there is a possibility that might happen for a couple of days at the most.
