GREEN AND LAFAYETTE COUNTY - Two area residents have joined the corporate board of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin. Two other local residents were also named as officers.
Roberta "Bobbie" Bernet recently retired from the U.S. Postal Service. She had been postmaster of Monroe and Juda. In 1996, Bernet chaired the first advisory board of the Monroe Fund. A Monroe native, she holds a degree in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and served in the Peace Corps in the early 1970s. Bernet is currently active with the Green County Literacy Council, the Kiwanis Club of Monroe, the Monroe Arts Center, the Green County Family YMCA, the Monroe Swiss Singers and the Bel Canto Singers.
William "Bill" McDaniel, an attorney with Johnson, Kranz and McDaniel, is a life-long resident of Darlington. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a law degree from Marquette University. McDaniel is a former member of the Darlington school board and a former board president. He currently serves on the boards of First National Bank in Darlington and on the Darlington Community Fund.
The Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin elected new officers at its annual meeting in October.
Jim Finley of Monroe, was elected chair. Finley is the retired president of Wisconsin Community Bank in Monroe.
Ron Spielman of Monroe, was re-elected secretary. Spielman is special projects advisor for the Monroe Clinic.
The Community Foundation works with charitable donors in seven southern Wisconsin counties: Crawford, Grant, Green, Iowa, Lafayette, Rock and Walworth. The Community Foundation holds 15 community funds and more than 500 additional funds established to match personal philanthropy with community need.
