Comedian Renfroe to perform Nov. 6 in Monroe

MONROE - Nationally-known Christian comedian Anita Renfroe will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 at Monroe High School Performing Arts Center.

A decade after she became a YouTube favorite, Renfroe, a former stay-at-home mom, will bring her unique brand of musical comedy and offbeat takes on life.

She came to fame with video clips of "everything a mom typically says to her kids during a single day" - sung to the tune of the William Tell Overture.

"I'd rather people laugh because they relate to something I say than because I wrote a clever punch line," Renfroe says. "All my stuff is about my life - it's real and it connects people - and that's a wonderful thing."

Renfroe has written three books, released five recordings on compact disc; and six of her comedy shows on DVD. Her newest DVD, "Big Ol' Sweet Iced Tea," features two pop-culture parodies, "All The Wrinkled Ladies" and "(A More Real) Love Story," which are already going viral on YouTube.

She has been featured in The New York Times, Readers Digest, Women's Day, and The Washington Post; and was a presenter at the Gospel Music Association's Dove Awards.

Since 2006, Renfroe has been touring with the largest Christian women's conference, Women of Faith. She recently went to New York City to tape almost twenty comedy bits for a Kraft foods ad campaign, "You Gotta Laugh Out Loud." And in June she was given the Georgia Author of the Year Award for her essay, "Don't Say I Didn't Warn You: Kids, Carbs, and the Coming Hormonal Apocalypse."

Reserved seats are $35, $25, $20, and $15, and may be purchased by calling the Monroe Arts Center at (608) 325-5700 or in person at the box office located at 1315 11th St. Additional information regarding this performance and other MAC events can be found online at www.monroeartscenter.com.
