TOWN OF CLARNO - An area family can breathe a little easier after a tense evening Sunday.
At about 9:30 p.m., a stove fire at W5882 County P prompted the family of three at the home to call for help.
The Monroe Fire Department was on scene shortly after, but the fire was out before emergency crews arrived, Monroe Fire Department Deputy Chief Lane Heins said.
"They went to use the stove and there were items in the stove already," Heins said.
The family members' names were not immediately available Sunday night.
One of the two adults who live in the residence was treated by Monroe EMS for smoke inhalation, but no injuries were reported. One other adult and a child live in the home, Heins said.
The kitchen of the home sustained minor smoke and heat damage, he said. By 10:30 p.m. fire crews were packing up equipment, while other firefighters were using two fans to clear the remaining smoke from the home.
Though no one was injured in the accident, the situation is a reminder to take basic steps to prevent a potentially more serious problem, Heins said.
"It's just a common procedure, check stoves inside and out," he said, before turning it on.
The Green County Sheriff's Department also responded to the scene.
