MONROE - Monroe Clinic will be participating in Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB), part of an innovative nationwide healthcare quality program funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

TCAB is a nurse-led hospital program that engages front-line staff to identify, pilot, test and adopt new practices over an 18-month period. The medical/surgical nurses are leading the way at Monroe Clinic. They'll be sharing successes and lessons learned with both staff and regional and national partners.

"Sharing information and successes both internally and externally affects the quality of care our patients receive," Monroe Clinic Chief Nursing Officer Paula Elmer said in a press release. "Our participation in this program shows our commitment to leading healthcare improvements and increasing efficiency to produce better patient experiences and outcomes."

TCAB is part of Aligning Forces for Quality (AF4Q), the foundation's signature effort to lift the overall quality of health care and provide models for national reform. The AF4Q TCAB program in Wisconsin is led by the Wisconsin Hospital Association and is supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, through a grant to the Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality.

In all, 17 regions across the country are a part of the Aligning Forces initiative.

"This program is a great fit for us, as it aligns with other process improvement initiatives at Monroe Clinic," Elmer said in a press release. "Often times, the best solutions and changes are discovered by those closest to work. In this case, our nurses are empowered to make key decisions affecting patient care."
