MONROE - People who have moved or changed their name since they last voted may not be properly registered to vote.
To see registration information, visit myvote.wi.gov. You may use the online tool to complete a registration form if necessary. Follow the online instructions. Print the form and bring to the City Clerk's office or to the polling place on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 6), along with documentation of proper proof of residency.
The City of Monroe Clerk's office says there is a common misconception among voters. Absentee voting, often referred to as "early voting," is more complicated than voting on Election Day, and it may take longer if you choose to vote early using this method. The ballots for absentee voters are placed in sealed envelopes that contain the voter's information and signature, which must be manually opened by the election inspectors on Election Day and processed through the electronic equipment.
The City of Monroe assures that the Election Day polling place, which is located in the lower level of City Hall, is amply staffed to get voters in and out quickly. It will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Voters are also reminded that they must register and vote in the actual municipality where they reside. This means that township residents must register and vote with their respective township clerks and at their respective polling places. Only City of Monroe residents can use Monroe City Hall for voting and registration.
The City of Monroe Clerk's Office will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, from Oct. 22 through Nov. 2, for absentee voting and to accept voter registrations from city residents.
