DARLINGTON - Two incumbents running unopposed for clerk of courts and coroner were re-elected Tuesday.
Catherine McGowan, Lafayette County clerk of courts, received 4,662 votes; and Virginia Douglas, Lafayette County coroner, received 4,096 votes. There were 15 write-in votes against Douglas and 10 write-ins against McGowan.
McGowan has served as clerk of courts since 1997. She joined the clerk of courts' office in 1993 as child support clerk. McGowan has worked for Lafayette County since 1976.
She worked in the unified services department, which eventually became the human services department, and also worked in the county clerk's office.
Douglas has served as the county's coroner since 2003. She worked in the coroner's office since 1995.
She also worked at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County and the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.
Both offices carry four-year terms.
