MONROE - The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department will begin taking reservations for park shelters, the community center, bandshell and pool for 2014 year on Thursday, Jan. 2.
Doors to the Parks and Recreation Department will open at 6:30 a.m. to allow people to get out of the cold. People should take a number upon entering the building. Staff will begin taking reservations at 7:30 a.m., so those waiting for reservations should be back by 7:15 a.m.
Shelters will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis; phone reservations will not be permitted.
The cost to rent a shelter is $50 and includes a beer permit, if needed. For parties over 200 people, the cost is $65 and includes a beer permit, if needed.
The community center, located in the basement of the Monroe City Hall, 1110 18th Ave., can be rented for $65. The center offers a large hall and kitchen with a stove, microwave, refrigerator and tables and chairs for 90 people.
The Swiss-style bandshell at Twining Park, 425 14th Ave., can be rented for banquets, weddings, variety shows and other events. The rental fee is based on group size and ranges from $50 through $150.
The pool can be rented from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays or Sundays for birthday parties, reunions or work. Groups of 1 through 25 people costs $75; groups of 26 through 75 people costs $90; and the cost of 75-plus people is $100. Costs include lifeguards.
