MONROE - The City of Monroe has begun a process to prepare and update the city's zoning ordinance and map.

Identified as one of the single largest priorities of the city's comprehensive plan, this project seeks to modernize zoning regulations, streamline zoning processes and encourage reinvestment. The process to complete the new zoning ordinance and map will take about 12 months, finishing in fall 2017.

In order to gather input and information toward the project, the city will be hosting a public workshop from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the First National Bank and Trust community room at 1625 10th St.

The workshop is an invitation for all members of the public to discuss strengths and weaknesses of the current zoning code and desired elements of the new zoning code and to identify any issues with the current code.
