On Monday, Sept. 20, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:

Recommended the Finance and Taxation Committee approve replacing parts to the police and fire radio and computer systems damaged by lightening Thursday. Damages are estimated at about $200,000, according to Police Chief Fred Kelley. The equipment is covered by the city insurance policy, but some items may not be replaceable because of their age. Kelley said the insurance payment may not be enough to cover the new replacement parts needed. The city has been using three mobile units converted from DC to AC current.

Approved special event applications for Monroe Youth Hockey Chili Cook-Off Oct. 2; Monroe High School Homecoming Parade Oct. 8; and YMCA Fall Celebration Social Fundraiser Oct. 23-24.

Heard from Fire Chief Daryl Rausch there will be a firemen's pancake breakfast Oct. 3 at the downtown fire station; an open house for city employees Oct. 14 at the new westside fire station; Board of Public Works and Public Safety Committee meetings Oct. 18 at the westside fire station; and a public open house from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 31 at the westside fire station.
