MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:
Approved bills from MSA Professional Services for $9,100 for storm-water quality master plan; Whitney Tree Service for $2,200, for tree trimming and removal; Green Valley Disposal, $1,000, for September recycling; and SEH, $990, for revisions to the 8th and 9th Street project and updating plans for the bidding process.
Authorized replacement of a suspended gas unit heater at the park garage for $2,900. The expense is not budgeted and will come from the city's contingency funds.
Authorized hiring Pat Zimmerman for $1,000 to repair water damage in the walls of the Park and Recreation Department office. A city employee will assist to help reduce the cost. The damage is covered by city insurance.
Recommended the council authorize submission of a community block grant application for 8th and 9th Street water and sewer main replacement. The city could received $250,000 to $500,000, depending upon the amount of money available and the number of applications submitted to the state program. The amount would represent 20 to 40 percent of city costs. Mike Kennison, water utility supervisor, predicted the city could receive notice about the grant approval in 60 to 90 days.

Recommend the council approve special-event permit for Main Street Lighted Christmas Parade from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 26 in the downtown Square area.
