MONROE - During a meeting Monday, the Public Safety Commission:
Recommended to council to approve special events including, Green County Shrine Club Circus, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. June 10; Main Street Concerts on the Square, 3 to 8:30 p.m. June 11 and 25, July 9 and 23, Aug. 6 and 20; Green County Ag Chest Dairy Days Parade, noon to 3 p.m., June 20; Swiss Colony Badger Days, on 14th Avenue, 4 to 11 p.m., June 22.
Discussed referral from tne Finance and Taxation Committee to create an alternative parking enforcement control system in the downtown area. Police Chief Fred Kelley presented a free but timed parking system in the downtown Square with permitted parking in lots and ramp. Fees for permits would be set by resolution. Kelley recommended annual permits in the amounts of $100 for lot and $125 for ramp, $150 for a reserved lot parking space and $175 for a reserved ramp parking space.
Discussed and took no action on a recommendation regarding whether to require reimbursement for municipal services from special event applicants. The "status quo" procedure remains in place, to charge only events which charge admission for police costs.
Discussed a traffic study done on 25th Avenue near 8th Street, for a stop sign at that intersection. Kelley said no speeding tickets were issued; however, tickets were issued for failure to stop at signs that already exist. Kelley recommended pedestrian signs be erected at 7th, 8th and 9th Street along 25th Avenue, where students cross for school. Engineering supervisor Al Gerber said another crosswalk would be painted at 8th Street.
