MONROE - On Monday, Oct. 6, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:

• Accepted a permit application from Kapitan Engineering for TDS relocation plan for Monroe Clinic.

• Recommended to council a resolution levying special assessments in the amount of $50,999.62 for 2008 new sidewalk construction. One business and three residences opted to have the work done on their own. The city paid $15,400 in construction costs for curb and sidewalk repairs and handicapped access for the project. Committee member Thurston Hanson voted against the recommendation.

• Approved a 25 percent share in cost of construction of regional sediment basin for Bakersfield second addition subdivision. The pond will also collect stormwater runoff from Park Place, a 17.5-acre, northwest subdivision. Cost to the city will be about $20,000 to $32,000.

• Recommended to Finance & Taxation Committee the 2009 Wastewater Utility budget. The budget is an increase of 0.55 percent over the 2008 budget, or about $13,500.

• Authorized hiring Madrel Excavating for 2008-2009 broken main excavating work, at $15 per hour.

• Approved bills for payment from Whitney Tree Service in the amount of $11,452.98 for tree removal and trim; from CRC Concrete Raising of Illinois in the amount of $3,633 for sidewalk raising; from Willett, Hoffman & Associates in the amount of $4,556.76 for the 30th Street detention pond; from Green Valley in the amount of $2,972 for August recycling; from Fehr-Graham & Associates in the amounts of $8,592.50 reimbursable to the city from Wal-Mart, $1,785.50 for 16th Avenue sewer, $1,058.25 for water improvement project engineering, $2,329 for downtown area surveying, and $766.50 for Eighth/Ninth streets sanitation project; from Rock Solid in the amount of $25,634.73 fro 2008 sidewalk program.

On Monday, Oct. 6, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee approved special event permits for the Monroe High School Homecoming Parade and the Green Haven Family Advocates Scavenger Hunt.

On Monday, Oct. 6, the City of Monroe Finance & Taxation Committee approved the Behring Senior Center to use $2,790.46 of a $5,000 donation from Cliff and Dorothy Reasa through the Community Foundation, to install ceramic tiles in the east entryway.

Senior Center Director Tammy Derrickson said the tile installation completes the center's front entry project.
