City of Monroe meetings: Feb. 6, 2008

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, the Monroe City Council:

• Approved claims in the amount of $428,299.86.

• Approved a conveyance, hold harmless and waiver of liability agreement with Menards.

• Granted operator licenses to Gary L. Rackow and Thomas W. Johnson.

• Granted a temporary class "B" fermentation malt beverage license to Monroe Youth Hockey.

• Hired Fehr-Graham & Associates of Monroe for engineering services for the 16th Avenue, mid-500 through mid-800 block sewer and water improvements for sanitary sewer design, water services design and construction inspections.

• Awarded a contract to Whitney Tree Service for tree and stump removal and tree trimming.

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, the Monroe Salary & Personnel Committee:

• Approved an increase of $25 per year and $50 per two years in allowance for new required protective footwear for city employees. The last time the allowance was increased, to $50 per year and $100 per year, was in 1998. The allowance policy is for 50 percent of the total cost. The allowances are retroactive to Jan. 1.

• Approved classification upgrades for six Street Department employees.

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, the Monroe Claims Committee:

• Approved the city's insurance company to pay a claim from Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home. A city plow truck working in an icy alley swerved and hit a van owned by the funeral home.

• Approved to pay a claim from Dondra Paulson. A snow plow working in the water department parking lot was backing up and ran into her vehicle. The city insurance company recommended to pay 80 to 90 percent of the total damage.
