MONROE - During a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Judiciary and Ordinance Review Committee:
Reviewed and discussed a letter from Green County Highway Commissioner Dallas Cecil requesting to be exempted from Weights and Measures fees. The request was denied.
Discussed and authorized an ordinance for a 10-year state copyright registration for $15 for the city logo, depicting the courthouse. Users of the logo must request permission. Monroe Main Street and the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who already are using the logo, will be given permission to continue.
Discussed possible ordinance changes regarding downtown parking and alternative parking enforcement control, and the Public Safety Committee's decision Monday to delay any action. Chairman Dan Henke asked that the issue be brought back by late summer to prepare for any ordinances that may have to be written. Alderman Mark Coplien also asked for the issue to be brought to the Finance and Taxation Committee to see how the city will cover the Police Department revenue shortfall from loss of the parking meters.
