City of Monroe Common Council: Tuesday, Aug. 3

MONROE - On Tuesday, Aug. 3, the City of Monroe Common Council:

• Recognized Rob Driver, supervisor of Monroe Municipal Airport, for his quick actions during an emergency airplane landing July 24 in the industrial park on the north side of the city. Driver had police, fire and EMS personnel alerted and ready to respond before the pilot landed. The pilot was able to land safely.

• Heard from Mayor Bill Ross that Silverstone Partners, Inc. of Middleton is interested in providing affordable senior housing for about 60 people near the Square. Ross said the location would provide seniors with shopping on the Square and still be within walking distance of the senior center. Ross will continue to report any progress.

• Approved unanimously paying bills in the amount of $343,204

• Approved special events for Southern Wisconsin/Northern Illinois Fire Rescue Association Monroe Fire School, Aug. 13 to 15 at the M.E.R.I.T. Center and Green County Fairgrounds; Monroe Main Street Maxwell Street Days, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 6 and 7 in downtown Monroe; a Monroe Optimist Club Skateboard Event, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 7 at the skateboard park in Honey Creek Park; and Crossroads Community Church Movie in the Park, from 8 to 11 p.m. Aug. 13 at the band shelter in Twining Park.

• Granted seven operator's licenses, and a solid waste hauler's license to Waste Management of Janesville.

• Granted a sidewalk café permit to Café Claudeen, 1014 17th Ave., from Aug. 4, 2010 to June 30, 2011.

• Approved a temporary outdoor beer garden to Green County House, Inc., 1301 5th Ave., and to Suisse House, Inc., 1602 12th St., for Sept. 17 to 19.

• Approved a residential lease agreement with Suzy Shaw for an apartment in the Water Department building for $650 per month.
