MONROE - At a meeting Tuesday, the city of Monroe Common Council:
Approved the creation of Ad Hoc Building & Grounds Committee and appointed Kelly Finkenbinder as chairman, and Paul Hannes, Charles Schuringa, and Mark Coplien as members.
Passed (9-1) a resolution authorizing the mayor to send a letter to various parties regarding possible rail expansion and asking that alternatives be looked into that will not hinder the Cheese Country Trail in the City of Monroe. Alderman Charles Koch voted against. Koch said the agreement made between the Pecatonica Rail Transit Commission and the railroad should be honored.
Passed (9-1) a resolution designating two blocks on 14th Avenue by Minhas Brewery as "Brewery Avenue" for marketing purposes in addition to official street name. Alderman Jan Lefevre voted against. Lefevre said the change would set a precedence in her opinion, and that no body else on the street has indicated whether they want the additional name.
Approved unanimously claims in the amount of $1,189,638.05.
Passed unanimously a resolution approving a special event for Green County Human Services Amazing Recovery Picnic Sept. 12 at Twining Park.
