City of Monroe Common Council: Jan. 5, 2010

MONROE - In a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Common Council:

• Set a public hearing date of Feb. 2 for an ordinance creating sections 5-2-5 and 5-2-6 of the Monroe City Code: Restatement of Home Occupation and Accessory Dwelling Regulations.

• Set a public hearing date of Feb. 2, 2010, for an ordinance repealing and recreating Section 5-2-4 of the Monroe City Code: Restatement of Adult Oriented Entertainment Business.

• Held a public hearing and passed unanimously a resolution vacating and discontinuing a right-of-way (21st Avenue south of 4th Street).

• Passed unanimously a resolution declaring official intent to reimburse expenditures from proceeds of borrowing to pay for the costs of a new fire station and improvement for 8th Street and 9th Street.

• Passed unanimously a resolution approving purchase of four 2010 Dodge Charger police vehicles at a cost of $67,612, after trade-in of four current 2007 Chevrolet police vehicles.

• Approved payment of claims in the amount of $692,976. 44.

• Granted an operator's license to Jeffrey C. Perkins and second-hand article dealer licenses to Garden Gate (Ken Leuenburger) and Sequels (Rosemary Forcade).

• Discussed and voted unanimously against holding a spring primary. Ron Marsh, Bill Ross and Tyler Schultz will run against each other for Mayor of Monroe in the general election April 6 .

• Discussed the position of city attorney, city administrator, municipal judge. Council voted unanimously to pursue the hiring of a city administrator and against the hiring of a municipal judge. The position of city attorney and stabilizing costs of attorney fees will be discussed further by the Salary and Personnel Committee.

• Recognized the retirement of Ken Flitsch after 28 years of service and of Randy Ringhand after more than 36 years, both at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
