MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:

• Discussed and recommended to council to approve four land acquisitions, signed off by residents, for 8th/9th Street project.

• Discussed and recommended to council to approve an additional change order in the amount of about $18,500 for contract with E & N Hughes for streetscape project. The changes will still be within budget. Committee members removed three items that they believed should not be responsibility of the city: $750 for tree boxes adjustments; $3,794 for removal and replacement of a section of curb and gutter; and $600 for removal and replacement of west side crosswalk that was installed crooked.

• Discussed quotes for benches and trash cans for streetscape project and authorized purchase from Site Needs in the amount of $22,114. The city will receive a 10 percent discount for buying local in Wisconsin and 2 percent for pre-paying.

• Accepted quotes for retaining wall on 6th Avenue West and authorized hiring Jeff Voegeli Landscaping at $18.65 per square foot for work.

• Discussed and voted 2-1 to reduce bill by one-half ($239) on billing dispute for mowing at 732 16th Ave. Member Neal Hunter voted against.

• Reviewed and accepted quotes authorized hiring Brian Drafall at $53 per hour for truck and operator and Danoll Boone Trucking for loader at $80 per hour for snow removal.

• Discussed and approved no garbage and recycle collection on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Residents will be allowed an extra bag of garbage the following week.

Members Mark Coplien and Charles Schuringa were absent.
