MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:

• Approved payment of a bill in the amount of $1,857.25 from Whitney Tree Service for trimming and removal of trees damaged by winter ice storm.

• Discussed and recommended to council to approve change order for an increase of $17,764 to E & N Hughes Company contract for hot water, chemicals and labor for concrete curing process in cold weather for downtown streetscape improvement project.

• Approved chemical quotes for Wastewater Treatment Plant and authorized purchase.

• Acknowledged a letter from Gerald Ellefson, past superintendent of the city's wastewater treatment plant and utility, to Mayor Ron Marsh, concerning the replacement of sewer lines on 8th and 9th streets.

• Received a petition signed by about 114 City of Monroe residents opposing the widening of 8th and 9th streets.

• Set a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 25 to discuss issues specifically related to the 8th and 9th streets reconstruction projects.
