MONROE - On Monday, Aug. 4, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:

• Approved a pedestrian crossing in the middle of the 1200 block of 14th Avenue. The crossing will connect two Minhas Brewery buildings.

• Approved special events for two Monroe Main Street Concerts on the Square on Aug. 14 and 28; Monroe Girls Youth Softball Invitational Tournament Aug. 8-10; Southern Wisconsin Northern Illinois Fire Rescue Association Fire School Aug. 15-18; and Monroe Youth Hockey Association Music Festival Sept. 20.

On Monday, Aug. 4, the City of Monroe Judiciary and Ordinance Review Committee:

• Approved a special exemption procedure for off-street parking, allowing parking spaces to be less than 9.5 feet wide or 18 feet long in a conditional use permit upon approval by the Plan Commission.

On Monday, Aug. 4, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:

• Approved for payment a bill from Whitney Tree Service in the amount of $5,833.92 for tree and stump removal and tree trimming; a bill from Iowa Grant Trucking in the amount of $139,829.82 for the 16th Avenue sanitary sewer project; and a bill from Green Valley Disposal in the amount of $3,311.32 for June recycling service.

• Accepted a bid from and awarded a contract to Monroe Heating and Sheet Metal, Monroe, in the amount of $62,812 for a city hall boiler replacement. City crews will remove the old boiler.

• Accepted a quote from Badger Swimpool, Inc. in the amount of $13,040 to install a replacement diving board and a section of the pool deck that has settled. The project was budgeted for $17,000. Parks Supervisor Paul Klinzing said the board replacement comes at a time when deck repair is needed. The original board was installed in 1980. City crews will remove the settled section of pool deck.
