MONROE - On Wednesday, April 23, the City of Monroe Airport Board of Management:
Discussed a marketing brochure for the airport. The second draft of the brochure was reviewed by Airport Manager Kelly Finkenbinder and was accepted by the board. Tom Kelly supplied mailing labels of airplane owners within the Monroe area. With approximately 900 names, it was decided to print 1,000 brochures and mail them in the near future.
Discussed snow removal at the airport. Airport Supervisor Rob Driver requested additional money for employee labor to remove snow because of the inordinate amount of snow this winter. His request was for costs associated with snow removal after the average winter snow total was reached. After discussion about the contract and the fact that Green County and the city are eligible for federal disaster aid related to snow events, a motion was made by Kelly and seconded by Hans Kampfer to recommend to Council that Touch & Go Aviation, Inc. be paid $1,606.50 for extraordinary labor related to snow removal. The motion passed.
Discussed giving Finkenbinder authority to give provisional approval for new hangars to be constructed, postponed from the previous meeting. Finkenbinder will call a special Airport Board meeting if necessary for hangar construction or any other item that needs to be addressed before the next regularly-scheduled meeting.
Discussed and approved hangar site and plans for Mark Spickard. Kelly made a motion to approve Mark Spickard to build a 60-foot x 40-foot hangar on the east side of the new hangar area in the third row from the north. Spickard is to build within three months and will receive a 20-year lease at $1 per year if the hangar is completed in 2008. Clarence Peters seconded and the motion passed.
Discussed and approved installation of security gate. Kelly made a motion to approve the installation of a security gate at the west entrance to the airport and to include the installation of one additional keyboard control box at each entrance at a cost of $6,850, with the total cost of the project not to exceed $8,500. Kampfer seconded and the motion passed.
Heard a report from Finkenbinder that the airport received a $4,510.64 insurance claim as a result of a lightning strike last summer.
