MONROE - The Monroe City Band is seeking choral singers of all ages and abilities to join in the annual July 4 concert in Twining Park.
The band will perform "The Battle Hymn Of The Republic," a traditional patriotic selection arranged for band and choir by Mark Haynes, as the grand finale to its concert. The plan is to have the singers go up to the apron of the band shell extemporaneously, creating a 'flash-mob'-style performance.
The event is intended to be a display of community, rather than a political or musical statement. No special attire is needed, and singers can participate even if they have not attended the run-through. The soprano, alto, tenor and bass parts are available at www.
facebook.com/groups/182572760187/, or by contacting director Randy Schneeberger at 608-325-9722.
A run-through of the selection is set for 8 p.m. Monday during the band's regular rehearsal. The rehearsal will be at the band shell, unless inclement weather forces a move to the middle school band room.
