MONROE - Casey Bradley will leave his job as accounting manager for the City of Monroe on Sept. 19 to become the director of finance for Houston County, Minn.
Bradley starts his new job Sept. 22 at the county court house in Caledonia.
"I loved working here; the people are great. A good group of people work here," Bradley said. "Everyone I worked with is dedicated to their work and friendly. It makes for a good atmosphere to work in."
Bradley has been with the City of Monroe for almost two years.
During that time, Bradley helped the city hall through a complicated transition to a new accounting system, Caselle.
"It's an actual government accounting system that will save the city about $30,000 a year," Bradley said.
Bradley is responsible for saving the city $1.3 million in future interest costs, by recently refinancing the Unfunded Pension Liability Fund with a State Trust Fund note.
He also oversees the tax increment-funded districts and works with financial advisors to secure debt for the districts' projects.
"Casey will be badly missed. He has done a good job for the city," City Treasurer Cathy Maurer said.
Mayor Ron Marsh could not be reached for comment, but often expressed praise and gratitude for Bradley's work at city committee meetings.
The Salary & Personnel Committee will discuss the soon-to-be vacancy and possibly take action to refill the position at its meeting 6:30 p.m. Monday at city hall.
Maurer said she spoke to Marsh and committee Chairman Mark Coplien about getting the position filled as soon as possible. The city is entering a time of year when budgets, quarterly and end-of-year reports and accounts need to be done and W-2s, 1099s, tax bills and water bills need to be sent out.
"That's a lot. But we've been through this before," Maurer said.
