MONROE - A Belleville man was charged Friday with sexual assault of a child for allegedly having sexual contact with a teenage girl in 2014.

Matthew A. Christen, 24, was charged with two Class C felony counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child and one Class D felony count of child enticement.

Christen was charged in Green County Circuit Court after Department of Justice investigators discovered a series of Facebook conversations between him and the girl. The conversations included sexually explicit photographs and plans to meet each other in person.

The charges stem from a series of incidents in October 2014. The victim claimed her first sexual contact with Christen occurred on or around Oct. 17, after he picked her up in his vehicle on a Belleville roadside.

The victim said Christen took her to his parents' house in Belleville, where they watched a movie before having sex. Afterward, Christen drove the victim back to the roadside.

According to the girl's testimony, Christen was aware of the victim's age before they had sexual contact.

On Oct. 26, Christen requested the victim send him sexually explicit photographs of herself via Facebook. A Facebook conversation Nov. 6 suggested the two met and had sex again, this time at her residence.

Each Class C felony charge Christen faces carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison or a $100,000 fine.
