MONROE - The National Historic Cheesemaking Center, 2108 6th Ave., will host a cheesemaking demonstration day on Saturday, June 8.
The century-old wooden Imobersteg farmstead cheese factory with original equipment sat undiscovered and dormant for almost 100 years. It was moved to the center's ground in 2010.
Each year, current and retired cheesemakers gather at the site to make a 90-pound wheel of Swiss. The day begins with the arrival of the milk at about 9 a.m.
Other attractions that day include a free admission to view the artifacts and data that chronicle history of the local cheesemaking; a restored early 1900s horse drawn milk wagon; a model farm display; a restored milk truck and cans; tours of a caboose located on the center's grounds; the Milk House gift shop; and lunch at a concession stand.
