Cemetery tour to include live historic performances

SHULLSBURG - Actors portraying six historic residents of Shullsburg will present the figures life stories in live performances during the Evergreen Cemetery Tour Walk on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Evergreen Cemetery.

Tours will start every 15 minutes between 9 and 11:30 a.m.

Former residents that are profiled include: Mrs. Hannah (Nichols) Jones, wife of Frederick Jones, a resident tailor; William Look, owner and proprietor of a boot and shoe business in Shullsburg; Henry Stephens, a prosperous miner and carpenter who built his house on top of his mine; Robert Samson, a prominent farmer and school treasurer; Dr. George Lee, a doctor and founder of Wisconsin Anti-Slavery Party; and Jane (Naylor) Trestrail, milliner, tailor's and farmer's wife, who suffered a tragic death.

Local actors portraying the Shullsburg residents include John Hicks, James Ronnerud, Ronald Johnston, Adrienne Rose, Bill Breihan and Karen Reese. Historical research for the script was provided by the portrayers who are all members of the Lafayette County Genealogy Society.

Tickets are $7 per person for the tour and are available on-site the day of the performances. Children under 12 are admitted free. No reservations are necessary; small groups will be formed on a first-come first-served basis. Entrance to the cemetery will be by way of May Street. Parking is available along the side of the cemetery. In addition, there will be hayrides from the firehouse to and from the cemetery.
