MONROE - All students and citizens of Monroe are encouraged to attend "The Cat's Pajamas," a vocal band in concert 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at the Monroe High School's Performing Arts Center. This a cappella quartet is sure to entertain all audiences, young and old, with their stylistically unique pop/funk music and their expressive showmanship.

Ingerid Kvam, a vocal/music instructor in the Monroe School District, invited The Cat's Pajamas, and they have offered to perform for the community as part of their "Music in Schools Promotional Tour." As part of this tour, which kicks off Feb. 1, they will be visiting schools throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Massachusetts.

The event is open to the public, and proceeds from the show will benefit the Monroe School District Music Department. Tickets are available in all school offices: $7 for students and $10 for adults.

"The Cat's Pajamas" got their first shot at fame when they finished in the top 10 in The National Oreo Cookie Jingle competition hosted by Randy Jackson (American Idol). Since then, they have produced two full length albums: "One Stop Doo Wop" and "Two Words: Me-ow." Both are available on iTunes. "The Cat's Pajamas Vocal Band," based out of Madison, features local performers Brian Skinner as bass, Grant Hendrickson as baritone, Nate Mendl as tenor, and David Stills (from Lima, New York) as lead. Since the group's formation in 2005, "The Cat's Pajamas" have appeared on the "Oprah Winfrey Show" and have been named the "Fastest Rising Vocal Band on the Planet."

Kvam has been in communication with "The Cat's Pajamas" since mid-October to encourage them to visit the community. Visit their Web site at www.vocalmeow.com to reference e-mail and Facebook addresses.
