MONROE - A Monroe woman was seen nationwide after winning an online contest to appear in a television commercial throughout October.

Lifelong Monroe resident Kate Stuart can be seen in a commercial for Tony Cha-chere's Original Creole Seasoning that started airing last month.

Louisiana-based Tony Chachere's Creole Foods posted a competition on social media in June offering a commercial appearance to cooks who have used Tony Chachere's to win national, regional or local cooking competitions.

Stuart, who has won a local chili cook-off two years in a row with her white chicken chili recipe, submitted her recipe to the competition.

"I never thought I had a chance to win," Stuart said.

When Stuart was contacted by Tony Chachere's, she was asked to send a two-minute video describing herself and her recipe.

"We taped it in front of a pasture with some cows," Stuart said. "We thought it would make us stand out and represent Wisconsin."

After winning, Stuart, a real estate agent for Century 21, was sent to New Orleans with coworkers Jennifer Lancaster and Ryan Ziltner for a day of shooting in August.

Stuart appears in the 30-second commercial to say "I use Tony's Creole seasoning in my championship chili." She said that the chili pictured in the commercial is not actually her recipe, because white chicken chili "doesn't look good on camera."

Stuart said she hasn't seen the commercial on air herself but has received messages from friends excited to see her on television.

The commercial is currently still airing on ESPN2.
