DARLINGTON — No injuries were reported from a house fire north of Darlington Monday afternoon, July 22, but a house cat died in the fire.

The Darlington Fire Department responded at about 1:05 p.m. to the fire at 18990 Furnace Hill Road, Town of Willow Springs, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office. No one was home at the time.

The resident of the property, Kevin Bahe, was away for the day, said Lt. Theresa Burgess.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage. Firefighters were on scene about four hours, with crews from Belmont, Blanchardville and Mineral Point assisting. Green County EMS of Darlington also responded.

The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature.

“I know that there wasn’t anything suspicious and they didn’t deem an investigation,” Burgess said.
