MONROE - Gubernatorial candidate and Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, R-Wauwatosa, visited Kutter Harley-Davidson Thursday but not as a candidate.

He came as a spokesman for Milwaukee County.

Walker took part in the sixth annual Milwaukee County Executive Officers' ride with about 75 people on 50 Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

The group had traveled from Milwaukee to northern Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota and Iowa since it left Milwaukee Saturday. Before the end of day Thursday it planned to visit Rockford and then finish the ride back in Milwaukee.

Although he met hundreds of people along the route, he didn't talk to them about his campaign. That isn't what the trip was about, he said.

"We do the ride to promote tourism," Walker said. "I told them I'd be back to talk to them as a candidate another time."

His goal was to help bring people to Milwaukee, to visit Summerfest, the Harley-Davidson museum or spend a day at Miller Park watching the Brewers. He wanted people to know there are lots of ways to spend their vacation in Wisconsin.

"We call it 'staycation,'" he said. "There are things to do right here in Wisconsin."

While his main reason for the trip was to promote Milwaukee County, one of the benefits of the trip is to see the sights around the state.

"I love looking at the scenery as we ride," he said. "This is an amazing state."
