Belleville President
There are two candidates running for Belleville village president. Maxine Ward and Roger Hillebrand are runnig to replace Howard Ward.
Position sought: Belleville village president
Age: 62
City/town of residence: Village of Belleville
Family: Married to Barbara, three children and seven grandchildren
Education: High school, some college
Occupation: Retired Chief of Police
Previous elected positions held: Served 21 years on the Belleville Board of Education and two years on the Belleville Board as a trustee up for re-election.
What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve them?
Village debt is my number one concern along with village growth in the areas of business and residential properties.
What are other key issues facing the district/municipality, and how would you work to resolve them?
We need to improve our tax base, and new business and residential property will help us achieve this goal. The village is undergoing a small but positive surge in this area at this time. A planned 50-lot residential development on the west side is being explored and a new car dealership is also to be built this spring. I would support this great addition to the village and look for other businesses to locate here.
Why are you the best candidate for this office?
I have served for 23 years in the capacity as elected director for the school district and a trustee for the village. I had a career in public service for 38 years and I enjoy working with and for these citizens. I am a candidate for the position of village president and I will do my best to fulfill the needs of the Belleville community. Only time will tell if I am or was the best candidate for this office. I believe my last 38 years serves as a testament to my dedication to the Belleville community. Thank you.
