What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve it?

Since moving from Madison to Brooklyn nearly 20 years ago with my wife Nilmi, I've envisioned taking part in my local government.

With the construction of our first house and the raising of our two daughters, my wife Nilmi and I haven't had substantial time to contribute to our community government. Times are changing and with more time opening up, I feel that it's my turn to give back to the Brooklyn Community that has graciously served us for numerous years. I have long believed that everyone of sound mind and decision making ability should at some point contribute to their local government. That is why I have chosen to run for the position of Town Board Second Supervisor. Being that I've never held a public position before, I will have much to learn and approach this decision with reason and passion.

What are other key issues facing the district/municipality, and how would you work to resolve them?

One of my core beliefs is that whoever holds a position such as this one, must be a servant to the community. In saying this, I mean maintaining consistent governance. Not catering to special interests of few residents, but to truly speak on behalf of all. Currently, I hold the position of scheduling coordinator at Madison Gas and Electric, I've held this position for the last five years. Previously I worked as a service technician for 25 years. Through all 30 years of my career, a lot of change has occurred, but my belief in consistent compassion for all, has guided me through these years.

I do not believe one should take procedural changes lightly or make policy based on simple and isolated incidents. Whether it be at my work or in our community, many people have worked tirelessly to get us to the point we're at today. Rash and hasty decision making often produce unforeseen problems that can be even more detrimental to the community than the original issue. As our country and community evolve, we too must adapt with common sense and knowledge.

Why are you the best candidate for this office?

Lets face it, nobody likes high taxes, but we cannot let our roads degrade into rubble. That is why I support the levy at it's current amount. Basically, we would rebuild one mile of road every year. At that pace we would have rebuilt all of our roads on a forty year rotation. It is my understanding from town meetings in the past, that few people think borrowing money for road construction is sustainable.

We will always need to adapt to change, but do so with caution and input from you, our Town residents. Furthermore, many people of our township have made it clear that we don't want to look like some of the other surrounding Towns with their poorly planned neighborhoods. In the process of gathering signatures for my candidacy, people voiced their opinion about preserving the rural character of our Town. This is why we need to maintain limited growth to the approval of our residents.

Once again, my name is Robert Bartle, I am running for the Second Supervisor position at the election on April 4th and I appreciate your support and vote. If you wish to speak to me directly, please call or email me at 608-235-1935 or rbartlert@gmail.com.
