What are the top issues facing this district/board and how would you work to resolve them?

One of the top issues the county is facing is balancing the budget with all the mandates coming from the state and federal levels. I believe the best way to resolve the budget issues is at the committee levels and by working closely with the department heads and their employees to find ways of streamlining and saving where possible. This means making good use of technology where possible or getting more efficient machinery. When possible, unnecessary labor costs can also be controlled through attrition. It takes a fine balancing act to provide services to citizens while not overburdening them with taxes. Tough choices have to be made at times to determine what services are needed and which ones can be done without.

What are other key issues facing the district/board, and how would you work to resolve them?

The county also has capital projects that need to be completed such as the Human Services building which is in no longer functioning as needed and is wasting large amounts of energy unnecessarily. We also have the issue of the Pleasant View Nursing Home which is a huge asset to our county yet a financial burden. I will continue to weigh the costs and benefits and do my best to make decisions that best serve the citizens of the county.
