What are the top issues facing this district and how would you work to resolve it?

Maintaining city services and holding taxes in check. This has been accomplished the last two years with no tax increase. The city was able to hold the line on taxes due to efficiencies created by staff. Next is the future of the downtown parking ramp. An ad hoc committee is working on the solution, whether to repair the existing the facility or to build a new ramp. The city has approved and is about to begin construction on a new wastewater treatment plant. Also, the successful transition to the new garbage collection system will be interesting this year.

What are other key issues facing the district, and how would you work to resolve them?

The city council is very concerned about the overall condition of the streets in Monroe. This is a long-term costly upgrade but necessary in the future. We need to continue to work on the economic growth of Monroe and Green County and to work with the Monroe chamber and Green County Development Corporation to achieve this goal. The future of the Green County transfer station is an issue of importance to Monroe and Green County. The city needs to find a solution for this issue for the good of all in our community.
