What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve it?

State and Federal funding has been cut substantially, but costs continue to rise. So budgeting is always a top issue that has to be studied and considered carefully. We are trying to increase the tax base by promoting our downtown as a good place to open a business. We are, however, currently rather land-locked and do not have locations where larger businesses could build that would provide family-supporting jobs. We are currently in need of a location for a new ball diamond and have found that our options are limited. This will need to be resolved in the next year since the new library will be built in Glarner Park where the diamond has been. This is an excellent location for the new library (in fact, even with the flooding this week, the site where the library will be was dry). Our downtown businesses expressed a strong desire for the library to stay downtown which is a big reason the Glarner Park site was chosen. I am excited to be a part of the final legs of the planning for the construction of our new library, if I am re-elected.

What are other key issues facing the district/municipality, and how would you work to resolve them?

Our roads and sidewalks are always a priority in order to ensure safe travel throughout the village. It is difficult to find the money for these needed infrastructure improvements but we need to address them to offer a high quality of life to our citizens.

Why are you the best candidate for this office?

I have gained a lot of valuable experience these last four years on the village board. I think I can use that knowledge to further the goals of the village. I am willing to work with all groups and people involved in an issue and listen carefully before coming to conclusions. I grew up in New Glarus and then was gone for a long time. But, my husband and I decided to move back because we love this place and want to contribute to it becoming an even better place to live, work and play. I encourage New Glarus residents to call or email me with concerns and especially suggestions to resolve problems. We are strong when we work together. I would appreciate your vote on April 3.
