What are the top issues facing this district/board and how would you work to resolve them?

School financing, staffing and, and large capital improvements. Like many other school districts in the state, Darlington is facing, or will be facing, many important issues in the years to come. Unfortunately, the most important issue is budgetary. With state funding varying from year to year, and a reduction of number of students enrolled in the district, it will make it extremely difficult to provide the current and future students the tools to succeed in our ever-competing society. The job of the Darlington school board and the community is to develop strategies to cope with these budgetary issues. Over the last twenty years the Darlington school district has produced many professionals and upstanding citizens, and I hope this can continue. I believe the district has done an excellent job in preparing students for being contributing members in society. The school district in the past has supplied the graduates the skills needed to be productive members of society.

What are other key issues facing the district/board, and how would you work to resolve them?

Staffing and staff morale has been an issue for many school districts. I believe the role of the board is to help all staff feel valued. Morale of teachers is an important factor to ensure teachers give their all at all times to ensure students get the very best possible education. Since I have been on the board transparency has been a goal of mine. I hope to continue with this, as well keeping the lines of communication open for all staff when they may have suggestions, concerns or even complaints within the district. Overall morale starts with leadership and effective communication.

Why are you the best candidate for this office?

I am a proud alumnus of this school district who went on to pursue a higher education and have chosen to raise my family in this community. I have great pride in this community and this school district. I feel one of my greatest strengths is my ability to communicate with others. With our current economic status I believe this is going to be vital because we are going to be facing many difficult decisions ahead. Loyalty, reliability, fairness, and promptness are all characteristics that I hold in high regard. I apply these to my everyday life and will apply them to my school board obligations as well.
