What are the top issues facing this district and how would you work to resolve them?

Over the course of the next few years, our school will be facing challenges to stay within our budget. It is going to take a strong understanding of the budget and expenses along with a willingness to closely evaluate all aspects of the budget and expenses in order to look for ways to both cut expenses and create efficiencies. While we do this, we want to make sure we are providing a good quality education for our kids by hiring the most qualified teachers and giving them the resources necessary to effectively teach and prepare our kids for their future. We need to continue to improve the scores of our students on the state school report cards. We also need to do a better job of promoting our district and showing the positive values of our district to minimize the number of students who are choosing to open enroll outside our district. Finally, we need to continue to strive to promote positive community relations and work closely with our community to make this a place that everyone wants to live in. We will resolve all these issues by having our board members along with the administration, staff and community work together as a team to come up with solutions that will give everyone the resources necessary to move the school forward in a positive direction.

What are other key issues facing the district, and how would you work to resolve them?

We are in the process of implementing a charter school conversion for our middle school. We have received some grant funding for this and are applying for more grant funding to help with the final stages of conversion. In the near future we will be applying for charter planning grants to convert the elementary and high school to charter schools as well. We hope this will provide our district the opportunity to help our students learn in more creative and innovative ways and provide our teachers the resources necessary to support the overall strategic plans of our district.
