What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve it?
Funding continues to be an issue for nearly all local school districts and Brodhead is no exception. We are currently in year one of a three year non-recurring referendum and we need to continue to be financially responsible with the funds we have, while preserving the excellent level of education that we provide to our students. I believe the district needs to continue to make repairs and improvements to our facilities when possible within the limits of our annual budget. These improvements will hopefully stall the need for future major renovations or additions allowing the district to direct funding towards improving student outcomes and student preparedness for life after Brodhead High. I will work to make sure the district continues on the path of financial responsibility as I have over the last six years.
What are other key issues facing the district/municipality, and how would you work to resolve them?
Another key issue facing our district is that our students are dealing with more emotional and mental health needs than ever before. We need to continue to make a commitment to our students' needs through additional mental health services, counselors, and educational opportunities for students. I am thrilled the board of education has agreed to hire an additional school counselor for the 2017-18 school year to continue our work in addressing these issues.
Finally, I believe the staff and administration in Brodhead is second to none. I am hopeful the board of education can continue to provide a competitive workplace environment to attract and retain the best staff and administration in the area.
Why are you the best candidate for this office?
There are four qualified candidates for the three openings on the Brodhead School Board and district voters face a tough choice when heading to the polls in April. I believe my track record on the school board and the success of the district over the last six years proves that I can be, and am, a vital member of the board of education. I hope district voters feel the same way and decide to elect me to another term. My three young girls will be a part of this district for nearly the next two decades and I am excited in the possibilities that are ahead for them in Brodhead. I look forward to continuing the district's work of making Brodhead a top notch district in south central Wisconsin.
