Belleville President
There are two candidates running for Belleville village president. Maxine Ward and Roger Hillebrand are runnig to replace Howard Ward.
Position sought: Belleville village president
Age: 66
City/town of residence: Belleville
Family: My husband, Howard W. Ward, is presently village president, and I am a Village Trustee. Our four children graduated from Belleville schools.
Education: Graduated from New Glarus High School. Furthered my education at University of Platteville, UW Extension and UW-Madison.
Occupation: Presently am semi-retired after 32 years at Journey Mental Health. Still teaching music (45 years +), tutoring students in various subjects - math, science, Language, etc., and do substitute teaching at Belleville schools.
Previous elected positions held: Village trustee for Belleville, president and treasurer for Music Boosters of Belleville schools.
What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve them?
There are several issues Belleville will have to deal with. Foremost is the budget. Prioritizing and getting the most for our dollar is an absolute must. Priorities include: Continuation of the lake project, installation of Main Street sidewalks, promotion and encouragement of new growth (both business and residential), keeping property taxes at a reasonable levy, Hwy. 69 project, and the redevelopment of the railroad corridor, maintaining and updating of Belleville's infrastructure and focus on ways to deflate and control costs of water and sewer bills.
What are other key issues facing the district/municipality, and how would you work to resolve them?
One item I would like to see address by the village board again is the ordinance regarding the issuance of a building permit for an above-ground swimming pool. It is my opinion that above-ground pools not surrounded by decks and pools that are not left up all year should not require a building permit.
